Our community wishes a happy birthday to Pauline Gaither Lurye, who celebrated her 98th birthday on February 16. He was the eldest son of eight children born to the late Jim Gaither and Eula N. Gaither of County Lines. He lives in New River, Arizona, but still has fond memories of growing up on the county line and attending Cool Springs High School.
Mdiv & Ma In Christian Ministry Requirements
Congratulations to Rev. Cliff Wall of Clarksbury. He completed the requirements for the Doctor of Theology degree at Union Theological Seminary in Trotwood, Ohio. He earned a bachelor’s degree in theology from Duke University.
Our community extends its deepest condolences to the family of Harry Wood Lynch, who passed away on Monday, February 1, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after a period of declining health. He was born in Yadkin County in 1970 to the late Rufus Mae Lowery Lynch and Willie Mae Lowery Lynch of Yadkinville One of nine children of Mae Lowery Lynch. He attended the schools of Yadkin County and at the age of 24 enlisted in the United States Army, serving 15 months in Korea. He was employed by the Chatham Manufacturing Company for many years. As long as his health permitted, he was a faithful member of Piney Grove AME Zion Church and served on the Usher Committee. Services honoring his life were held Saturday afternoon, February 6, at Rutledge & Bigham Funeral Home in Statesville. He is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery.
Our best wishes go out to Rhonda Griffith Bridgeman, who broke her hand and fingers when she fell last Monday. Venessa W. Cuthrell is resting at home, recovering from pneumonia. Shirley P. Lewis is in improvement but remains in rehabilitation at Bermuda Village and Adzeal. Faye Stroud continues to rest at home while undergoing cancer treatment.

Pray that the Lord will provide comfort and strength to Harry’s family as they adjust to life without him. Master Of Divinity Degree Online
As a first theology degree, the MDiv is designed to provide a broad theological foundation for practical applications in ministry as well as further study in theological disciplines. The Master of Divinity degree is offered as a three-year full-time program and as a five-year extended preparatory program, requiring 135 quarter credits (30 courses). (Hot Link) Students transferring to STVU to complete an MDiv started elsewhere must complete at least 70 credit hours at STVU and complete all degree requirements for that degree.
Our academic year consists of four 10-week terms: fall, winter, spring, and summer. Each course is worth five credits. MDiv required and elective courses are offered on weekdays, evenings and Saturdays. Selected courses are available in online, hybrid, one-week intensive, and full-year (fall applications only) formats.
Required and elective credit can be earned through the study mode that best suits the student’s schedule, learning style, and interests: in-person courses, online courses, hybrid courses, one-week intensive courses, directed study, independent study, and through service-learning or experiential learning opportunities . A very important part of the MDiv study program is preparing everyone for ministry. For this we require three (3) pastoral training courses: PT555, PT556, PT557. These courses are not electives and do not count toward earned credit hours. They are provided on a “satisfactory/unsatisfactory” basis. Students should consult their advisor and the current academic catalog and course handbooks for more information about this important requirement.

The Master of Arts in Christian Education (MACE) is a two-year professional graduate degree with a concentration in the field of educational ministry. The primary purpose of the MACE fellowship program is to train people to lead educational ministries in congregations and many other settings. The MACE student program also offers a one-year course for students who have completed a master’s degree in theology.
The two-year MACE program of study requires successful completion of 90 quarter credits (18 courses). The one-year Master’s degree in Christian Education requires successful completion of 45 quarter credits (9 courses).
Our academic year consists of four 10-week terms: fall, winter, spring, and summer. Each course is worth five credits. All required MACE courses are offered in one-to-one classroom formats on Friday evenings and Saturdays. Select MACE courses are also available in online and hybrid formats. The two required courses in the MACE degree are year-long courses, starting in the fall semester and taking place approximately once a month from September to May. Registration for full-year courses is open only during the fall semester.

Students wishing to enroll in the two-year program must earn a high school diploma from an accredited institution and demonstrate aptitude for graduate study and employment. Students wishing to enter the one-year program must have earned a Master of Theology degree from an accredited institution. Through a cooperative agreement with the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Social Work, students can earn a Master of Divinity degree from Virginia Union University’s Samuel DeWitt Proctor Theological School and a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from VCU. This four-year graduate professional degree program is offered by Virginia Commonwealth University in partnership with STVU.
The purpose of the MDiv-MSW dual degree program is to prepare students for careers at the intersection of social work and ministry; to enable social workers to implement and evaluate social work practice relevant to biblical, theological, ethical, educational, and pastoral perspectives; and prepares graduates to engage in various forms of services, in which clinical and managerial skills in social work are vital.
Percentage Of Undergraduate Degrees For Master Of Divinity Students
To participate in the program, students must apply individually and be admitted to the STVU Master of Divinity program and the VCU Master of Social Work program. Students also pay tuition fees to each school separately. The program requires four consecutive years of study leading to a master’s degree in theology and social work. Part-time study permits are issued by the Virginia Commonwealth University Dual Degree Advisor and the Shanghai TV University Dean or Academic Affairs Advisor. All degree requirements must be completed within seven years of graduation. Students can apply to both schools at the same time and start studying at one of the schools according to the approved course plan. Alternatively, students can start at VCU or STVU and then apply to another school during their first year of study, subject to application deadlines.
